Take back, take back all your own
the forgotten ones and the shaken souls
Take back, take back all your own
Make your face and spirit shown
Seal their fates as you wake their bones
Make your face and spirit shown
And prove that you love rock and roll
that it rattles your hips and it shakes your soul
Prove that you love rock and roll
Lie awake and think about how sad you were
Shoot it straight about how mad you were
Take your time to think about how good things are
Write a line and just be thankful that you've come this far
Take that, take that shaken soul
Show him all the things that I've been shown
Take that, take that shaken soul
And guide footprints on yellow roads
Prove that you're the one who painted them yellow
Guide footprints on yellow roads
Know your children still have goals
Even when our progression's slow
Know your children still have goals
Because there's never been a better time to have a fire in your eyes
Because if God is being greedy, he's got a good reason why
So place a guitar on your chest and put a sweater on
Place your forearm against the wood and strum lightly with your thumb
Take these, take these shaken souls
Take their given names and their given homes
Give them names and homes that are your own
Take that, take that shaken soul
The ones who love are the ones who know
The ones who love are the ones you know...

Lonely Mrs. Stone, she walks the streets
Is she waiting there for me?
And she says, "Oh, my dear
must be lonely! Won't he sit and
have a cup of tea?"
And she says, "Oh, I'm just
so lonely, but I won't be if he'd
promise to stay here with me."
Bored old Mr. Ford, he walks at night.
Is he looking for a fight?
And he says, "Ah, I'm just so bored!
I cannot afford another
night alone!"
And he says, "Ah, you must be bored,
but Mr. Ford is friends with
the lovely Mrs. Stone."
Mrs. Stone and Mr. Ford, they walk the streets.
Are they waiting there for me?
I think that I'll stay in tonight
Hate the darkness, love the light
These words I repeat every night:
Hate the darkness, love the light

And now it's falling
It seems that I've been here before
("this is not a waste, now both my palms are face down")
I want to see the living Lord
("try to keep your palms down, deeply breath in, then out")
And now it's falling
The streets you're walking on are gold
(I try to keep my head down, stairing at my palms now)
The Spirit has come here, behold!
(visions from my dreams, how beautiful it seems now)

My car headlights illuminated stop signs
conversing with the Spirit yesterday.
I told him that I trusted him and asked him
to say anything he would like to say.
So he followed me through houses and through hotels
and told me everything that I should say.
So I asked him to keep speaking in me
as long as I promised to stay...out of the way
"You're often overlooked and underrated," (i said),
"and altogether undeserved sometimes.
You're instigation has been proven time and time again
especially in conversations of mine."
So I asked him for guidance and for wisdom
hoping that he won't ever decline.
And I said that until these demons are killed
I would always promise to stay...out of the way
"Thy Kingdom come
Thy will be done
on earth as it is
in Heaven."

Quick Said the Bird Columbus, Indiana
At one of our very first shows, a friend dubbed us "an atmospheric folk pop orchestra" and we liked that. We prefer stomping floors to kick drums, hand-shakers to high-hats, and Casio-keyboards-through-tape-players to electric guitars. We try and create little backyard micro-epics. We hope we don't buff out too many of the imperfections. ... more
